Welcome to the 90th season of second oldest youth orchestra west of the Mississippi!
The Eugene-Springfield Youth Symphony (YS) was created back in 1934 by a forward-thinking group of people who understood the value of music education for youth. Since then, it has grown and developed into one of the premier youth orchestra programs in the area. Our top orchestra includes the finest student musicians of Lane County, generally ranging from 9th-12th grade. We also continue to accept students up to 21 years of age. Youth Symphony musicians perform exciting concerts that feature outstanding soloists and demanding orchestral music.
The Youth Symphony is led by Dr. David Jacobs, the Director of Orchestral Studies at the University of Oregon. We proudly welcomed Dr. Jacobs in the spring of 2016. He brings a tremendous background of professionalism and musicianship to the orchestra. Rehearsals begin Monday, September 18th, 2023 in the band room at South Eugene High school from 6:45-9pm. Entrance is from the SE parking lot. All absences and tardies must be reported by a parent or guardian by emailing or texting Registrar Michelle Kajikawa: ysregistrar@esyorchestras.org.
Please do not call the office or the message may not get through to the registrar. Students are expected to arrive 10-15 minutes early so they are ready to begin at 6:45 sharp. One week notice is required for absences. Be sure to check the google calendar below for rehearsal and concert updates.
The tuition for Youth Symphony is $540 for the full season, Sept-May. The registration form will include several payment plan options. Scholarships for program fees, private lessons and/or instrument rentals are available to any family that qualifies for the federal free & reduced meal program.
